Captain Marvel (2019) Analysis — GC #313

You asked for it, and now you’re getting it. We’re discussing one of the biggest movies of year just days before the release of one of the biggest (THE biggest?) movies of all time. But wait, things seem different about our discussion of Captain Marvel.

Higher, Further and Faster with Captain Marvel

The 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel takes things back to an easier time—the 90s. Vers (Brie Larson) winds up on Earth after an incident battling the shape-shifting Skrull. Upon her arrival, she encounters SHIELD and Nick Fury (Sam Jackson). With the help of Fury, Vers must find and defeat the Skrull leader Talos (Ben Mendelsohn).

Your longtime hosts Alexandra, Kirsten and Erin have a good time breaking open a movie they aren’t super enthused about. With their Captain Marvel anlysis, your hosts discuss female friendship, gaslighting, narrative flaws and much more.

But, that all follows our quick reviews and the syllabus expansion.

Grab your favorite 90s album and shirt and dive in as we discuss Captain Marvel.
