This week’s episode of the GenreCast movie analysis podcast is a special presentation as our friend, and Patreon-supporter, Keithan chose this week’s title. And for us, he chose the David Byrne-directed experiment True Stories from 1986.
Talking Heads and True Stories
Set in a small fictional Texas community, David Byrne’s narrator drives around examining a series of stories inspired by tabloid-esque tales. The city is set to celebrate its sesquicentennial, or 150th, anniversary. The citizens of the town are looking for love, romance, acceptance, and much more in this often surreal, part-time music video that features a soundtrack filled with Talking Heads music.
This week, we get into the films approach to love and marriage. Then we discuss its views of small town life and the opposition towards outsiders. We also get into consumerism, cynicism, and much more as we examine David Byrne’s True Stories.
