Welcome everyone to the first part of our month long celebration of the wonderful Geena Davis. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be looking at some of the key titles in her filmography—wherein she worked with David Cronenberg, Penny Marashall, Ridley Scott and more. And, we’re kicking off the month with the 1986 body horror classic, The Fly.
Why, oh why, Did We Brundle The Fly?
David Cronenberg’s The Fly remake from 1986 is a tight-paced playground of body horror. Starring then real-life couple Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum, The Fly channels classic monster flicks with a modern twist. When Seth Brundle’s teleports himself through a chamber with a small housefly, things begin to go wrong. Ronnie is initially taken aback by the new physically impressive Seth, but she soon realizes Seth might not be feeling as good as he thinks.
On this week’s show, we’re joined by Kirsten Therkelson to deliver our critical analysis of The Fly. We get into:
- Abusive relationships
- Practical versus CGI
- Birth and choice
- Evil tech and much more
So, hop in your Brundlepod and join us for this week’s The Fly analysis.
