Æon Flux (2005) – GTGC #255

Your favorite film analysis podcast is back to attempt to bring our trademark film analysis to the 2005 adaptation of Æon Flux. Karyn Kusama’s (Jennifer’s Body, The Invitation) follow up to Girlfight received mostly negative reviews, but does it deserve a re-evaluation? We get to the heart of the matter in this week’s episode of the GoodTrash GenreCast.

Suiting Up with Æon Flux

Æon Flux

Based off of an MTV-produced anime that began airing in 1991, Æon Flux is the story of a contract operative who is helping a rebellion take down the authoritarian government, led by Trevor Goodchild (Marton Csokas). The titular character, played by Charlize Theron, develops a more personal stake in the takedown as events progress. During her mission, she begins to encounter a new mystery that will change everything.

This week, we do our best to flesh out Æon Flux. We discuss MTV Studios, reincarnation and cloning, and the heavy themes that the film tries to engage with. We also play a game, discussing Directors Who Should Make an Action Film.

The flu is beginning to spread, don’t you want our content to be the last you consume?
