Happy #FlashbackFriday listeners! After talking Michael Bay’s Transformers earlier this week, we thought we’d travel back to the GoodTrash Genrecast early years when Dustin, Dalton, and Arthur talked about GoodTrash’s very first sequel, Bad Boys II. Michael Bay has been long maligned on GTGC and the Bad Boys II discussion was no exception. The analysis comes in fast and furious to totally dismantle the film’s Michael Bay-isms, BIG WILLY STYLE!
Arthur discusses the auteur movement, including commercial auteur and auteur of commerce issues, as well as blockbuster directors. Arthur then discusses a comparison between Michael Bay and James Cameron. He argues that Bay is the very last studio film-maker, comparing him to the studio system in the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Dalton talks about the objectification of the human race. He argues that Bay does not like people, and has a distaste for the human body. He also states that this film is Nihilist. Dalton despises Michael Bay and also calls his films generally racist. “Everyone is a piece of shit!”
Dustin takes a look at the assets of the militarization in film. He says it’s a justification of post-9/11 United States foreign policy. This film is a prophecy of current NSA goings-on. Martin Lawrence’s character’s growth is how he goes from critiquing violence to justifying it.
If you enjoyed the Michael Bay thrashing in our latest Transformer’s discussion, this is just the throwback you need to get your weekend under way.
