Welcome to the spookiest time of the year. The temps are dropping, the leaves are changing and the dead will soon walk among us. So, it’s only fitting that we kick off Shocktober 8: The Dead Spots with THE Zombie Movie, Dawn of the Dead (1978). The conceit of this year’s marathon is that each host must pick a major horror blind spot.

Walking the Earth with Dawn of the Dead

I thinks its safe to say that both this and the original Night of the Dead can easily be referred to as “THE Zombie Movie”. Each being equally impactful. Released ten years after Night, Dawn of the Dead expands the scope of the event that has reanimated corpses across the midwest. We see the impact in urban areas, where the disease is spreading faster. Four survivors make their way out via helicopter and find an abandoned shopping mall, where they begin setting up a makeshift home.

This week, we talk Zombies, theology, consumerism, society and George Romero.

Make sure you subscribe to stay up to date with Shocktober 8 and our biggest blind spots.
