Hello everyone, and welcome to the GoodTrash Event of the summer: How Have We Never Covered…?
This is our biggest and most interactive marathon to date. After nearly 8 years and more than 370 movie titles, we realized we hadn’t even scratched the surface on some of the biggest “good trash” movies of the last 40 years. As you know, we try to stick to cult and genre fare that won’t find its way into a film studies course (even if we do cheat now and then).
So, Arthur proposed an idea. A full out battle for supremacy to discuss the biggest movies you want us to talk about. We scoured the streaming sites, looked back on our hearts and minds, and fielded 64 movie titles. From blockbusters to cult faves to pop culture phenomenons, we have it all. These choices span genres; action, sci-fi, horror, crime, Anime (yes it’s a mode, but here we are) — we’ve got it all.
And we need your help.
How do I vote?
Over the course of 4 weeks, you’re going to vote to choose the final four movies that we’ll talk about on the show. Each week on our Twitter, you’ll be presented a series of polls. And, each week, you’ll narrow the field from 16 to 1, which will be the title of our episode that week.
So, go follow us on Twitter and be ready to kill your darlings.
The Tournament of GoodTrash
To be fully discreet, we pooled our ideas together to come up with 64 titles. Arthur stuck these in a bracket randomizer for seeding. We didn’t take time weighting titles, and left it to fate. And honestly, it’s left us with some pretty fascinating matchups.
Week One:
In week one, we’ve got battling magicians waging war on adventurous kids, a beloved performance from Jim Carrey, an Ogre and his donkey, and Michael Bay all fighting it out for dominance and discussion on our July 10 episode.
Week Two:
In week two, an international assassin faces off with an international sensation, Spielberg goes to war with Mann, a kid calls in sick, we’ve got something in a box, and at the end of it all—we just don’t care. No matter who loses, we’ll discuss the campion on July 17.
Week Three:
Week 3 takes us to space and back. We’ll also see Tom Cruise make several attempts to make it to the finals. There are sharks and gators battling it out with soldiers and scientists. And finally, since we live in a society, we’ve got one of the most fascinating movies of 2019. And it’s all for a spot on our July 24 show.
Week Four:
Finally, we’ve got some real heavy hitters this week with a boy from Alabama, an alien from Pandora, and a toy who thinks he’s a space ranger making a run for #1. This could be animation’s strongest chance as Disney, Pixar, Studio Ghibli, and an Iron Giant are gunning for the analysis table on July 31.
