Join us this week on the Praisedown, as we discuss Five Iron Frenzy! Heath and Alex join stock car driver, e-sports athlete, and musician GWiz to discuss:
Only the worthy survive this gauntlet of nonsense, but they are duly rewarded with a discussion of Five Iron Frenzy‘s 1999 live album Proof that the Youth are Revolting!
Christian Ska is good because of Five Iron Frenzy
Denver-based Five Iron Frenzy is the band most commonly credited with spearheading the Christian Ska movement. Led by bandleader Reese Roper, Five Iron Frenzy rose formed in the wake of the breakup of Reese’s, and other members’ previous band, Exhumator. Departing from Exhumator’s thrashy, industrial sound rocketed Five Iron Frenzy to cult fame among Christian and Secular listeners. To date, the band holds the record for most money raised for a music project on kickstarter.com, raising $200,000 for the production of their 2013 reunion release, Engine of a Million Plots.
Proof that the Youth are Revolting is Five Iron Frenzy’s first live album, which serves as a comprehensive showcase of the band’s ability to oscillate between emotional highs and lows. The album features covers of The Final Countdown and It’s not Unusual, while also respectfully touching on heavy subjects, including the band’s personal ties to the Columbine High School Massacre in their song A New Hope.
