We’re talking about MeWithoutYou this week on the Praisedown! Heath and Alex sit down once again with funniest person in Oklahoma City, Zach Smith! This one gets all wild right out of the gate, be ready for:
- Alex getting in huge trouble in Hell!
- Us, talking about clowns for THIRTY MINUTES!
- Fun youth group games, and us improving them!
Really sorry about all the clown stuff! We’re going to make it up to you by talking about the fresh MeWithoutYou LP, [Untitled]!
MeWithoutYou bravely treads uncertain ground in [Untitled]
We have discussed MeWithoutYou before but for newer listeners, a primer on this band is in order. Originating from Philadelphia, MeWithoutYou is the brainchild of brothers Aaron and Michael Weiss. Due to their upbringing, the Weiss brothers’ lyrical themes span all three Abrahamic faiths. MeWithoutYou is the only Christian band I know of who draws heavily from Sufi poet Rumi, for instance.
MeWithoutYou causes me to reminisce about [A→B] Life when listening to [Untitled]. The band’s chaotic, post-hardcore sound makes a powerful return, but departs from the sureness the lyrics previously boasted. As always, Aaron Weiss’s lyrics are thickly veiled in allegory and metaphor. On [Untitled], multiple songs feature multiple speaking parts and read like high drama. Due to unfolding life events of Weiss, MeWithoutYou’s latest album ruminates on isolation, and fear that God is not there.
