Episode 365 of the GenreCast movie podcast takes you deep inside the minds of two men seeking vengeance and justice. This week, we’re taking a look at Denis Villeneuve’s move into America with his 2013 hit, Prisoners.

Locked Down with Prisoners

Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners focuses on Keller Dover, a religious survivalist whose daughter is kidnapped, alongside the daughter of his best friend. Detective Loki must find her. As the mystery begins to unfold, Dover and Loki begin butting heads—but will they be able to stay out of each other’s way long enough for the case to be solved?

Prisoners was positively reviewed upon release, made a bunch of money, and even cracked some “Best Movies of 2013” lists. But, is their anything going on below the surface? We spend a supersized amount of time unlocking the pieces of Prisoners. We analyze the war on God, explore the men at the core of the story, and parse through the theology and ideology present in the story.
