Second of His Name – The Cast Beyond the Wall #56

Special guest Daniel Bokemper from The Cinematropolis joins The Cast Beyond the Wall hosts Caleb Masters and Daniel Stull to do a review and storyline by storyline analysis of the third episode of House of the Dragon, “Second of His Name.”

Episode three of House of the Dragon jumps ahead by nearly three years. This week’s topic–when will Rhaenyra get married? All three of the leads; Rhaenyra, Viserys, and Daemon; spend their time in this episode growing out of their pre-conceived ideas of ruling the seven kingdoms through a different test. Rhaenyra wrestles with the expectations of the patriarchal leadership in Westeros, Viserys reflects on his consequential decisions, and Daemon goes toe to toe with the infamous crab feeder in hopes of earning respect.

Does House of the Dragon‘s first “battle” with the deformed pirate live up to the legacy?

Today’s podcast topics include:

  • Why Rhaenyra’s defiance exposes her father’s weaknesses as a leader
  • How Viserys’s hunt differs from a similar event during King Roberts’s reign
  • The return of the Lannister family
  • Alicent Hightower’s subtle plays to protect the realm
  • How Daemon’s victory at the Stepstones gives him political leverage over Viserys
  • Will Rhaenyra decide to marry?
  • What the appearance of the white hart for Rhaenyra could mean
  • Why the epic crab feeder battle felt anticlimatic
  • What we expect to see in episode 4, “King of the Narrow Sea.”

According to the IMDB synopsis, “Second of His Name” is described as:

“Daemon and the Sea Snake battle the Crabfeeder. The realm celebrates Aegon’s second nameday. Rhaenyra faces the prospect of marriage.”
