Happy Friday listeners! Earlier this week Caleb, Dalton, and Arthur sat down discussing their favorite Star Trek movies in their review of Star Trek Beyond so we’re doing another #FlashbackFriday by taking a trek into the past with our GoodTrash Genrecast episode discussing the somewhat polarizing Star Trek Into Darkness.
This episode of the GoodTrash Genrecast reunited the co-founders with UCO colleague Phillip Harvey to bring analysis to J.J. Abrams 2013 sequel. Analysis kicks off with Arthur talking about the traditional hollywood structure of formalism of the blockbuster. Dalton talks about how the movie paints a disturbing and desensitizing view of terrorism and catastrophes via the Enterprise crashing into San Francisco before Phillip talks about how the deeper tone of voice conveys traditional power structures that are colonial and misogynist. Dustin closes out the conversation by bringing a feminist reading of how this movie has issues of portraying female characters.
It’s an old school GoodTrash episode that packs a Vulcan death grip and phasers set to stun. Make sure to start the weekend right by taking a taking the plunge into the Darkness of summer blockbusters.
