Into the Wild – GTGC #32

Hello once again, Dear Listener. Its that time of the week where we Flashback to one of our older shows. With Speed Racer on the horizon, its only appropriate that you get more Emile Hirsch in your life. So, we’re going to go back and look at Arthur, Dustin and Dalton discussing Into the Wild. This movie was one of the first titles that was proclaimed good enough for the Platinum Shelf—a superfluous award we give away each year during our Shelvies episode.

We Go Into the Wild

Into the WildIn this episode, we go on our own transcendental journey to Studio D in Norman. Arthur discusses the literary trappings of Jack London, Thoreau, and other transcendentalists. He interprets that the film follows a Romantic character in a Naturalistic setting. Dalton speaks of how happiness is only real when it is shared. He is critical of transcendentalism. Dustin spoke at length to the failings of the transcendentalists; how they failed to see that human beings are social animals at their core.

So, come on a journey with us as we look back at this episode from the early days. In this episode, we also played a game. We talked about our favorite movies that depict the “hero’s destination”. This is a very good movie—in fact, all three hosts shelved it. So, if you haven’t seen it definitely check it out.
